Orlando, FL – Coming back from the All-Star break, Paolo Banchero deservingly got to enjoy some glory, Orlando picked up right where they left off before the weekend activities and claimed a well-deserved 116-109 victory against the Cavaliers.
At the forefront of the Magic’s offensive brilliance, was the dynamic duo of Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, who didn’t have the prettiest stats but had an impact on the game nonetheless. Their seamless connection on the court allowed the duo to open up opportunities for their teammates to shine. One person who took advantage of their opportunities this game was Moritz Wagner, who had a monstrous 22-point performance. His 58.3% shooting from the field was a display of finesse, making every possession a showcase of his scoring prowess. Wagner’s performance showcased why he still belongs in the Sixth Man of the Year race.
In a delightful turn of events, Cole Anthony found his scoring rhythm after struggling with his efficiency before the break. His 6-of-8 shooting performance, resulting in 13 points, showed Magic fans how vital he can be off the bench. Yet another bench player who showed up tonight was Jonathan Isaac, who was snatching boards with tenacity and timing all night long. His five offensive rebounds showcased his dominance on the glass, outclassing both Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen combined. Isaac’s presence in the paint helped the Magic get the second chance point after second chance point and throw the Cavs into a spiral
The Magic’s efficiency tonight was some of the best we’ve seen all season, shooting a blazing 56% from deep and 88.9% from the stripe. Joe Ingles and Gary Harris were both flawless from deep, meanwhile, five Magic players didn’t miss a single free throw tonight. Surprisingly, the team got outdueled in the paint, largely due to Mobley’s paint presence and elite defensive display, however, Coach Mosley was able to pivot his game plan and help Orlando get the win.
In this amazing performance the Magic put up against one of the league’s hottest teams, Orlando proved that they are a force to reckon with in the East and cemented their hopes of making a playoff run in just a few months.
